Prior Chair
Dr. Richard Marlar received his PhD in blood coagulation from Wayne State University and did a post-doctoral fellowship in blood coagulation at Scripps Clinic & Research Foundation with a portion devoted to training for operating a clinical laboratory for hemostasis testing. He worked at the Blood Center of Wisconsin and Medical College of Wisconsin establishing and directing clinical coagulation laboratories. He was a Professor of Pathology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and University of Oklahoma College of Medicine as director of coagulation testing. He served as Director of Clinical Pathology at the OKC VA Medical Center. Upon semi-retirement, he is working part-time at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center and TriCore Reference Laboratories, where he serves as Director of Coagulation and Special Coagulation Laboratories.
Dr. Marlar is the current chair of EQATH (2018). He currently serves a chairperson for Expert Panel on Hematology and Coagulation for CLSI and Director of QA for NASCOLA. From 2013-2017, Dr. Marlar was chairman of the Plasma Coagulation Inhibitor Sub-committee of the ISTH. He also currently serves on the Board of Directors for the International Society of Laboratory Hematology. He has been Editor-in-Chief of the journal, Blood Coagulation and Fibrinolysis for 18 years.
Dr. Marlar’s research and academic interests are centered around laboratory coagulation testing and quality assessment in the laboratory.
